About When She Thrives Day

On October 12, 2022, Ed Gainey, Mayor of the City of Pittsburgh, proclaimed the day as When She Thrives Day in the City of Pittsburgh.

The second weekend in August will become When She Thrives weekend honoring single mothers who are The Legacy Builders, The Trailblazers, The Change Makers, The Community Cultivators and the Thrive Ambassadors.

About When She Thrives

When She Thrives is an organization dedicated to empowering single mothers to move their families from poverty to prosperity through education, advocacy, and personal and professional development.

In Allegheny County, 28% of households are headed by single moms. Just over 70% of poor households in Allegheny County are headed by single moms, 68% of which are Black moms. When She Thrives was birthed out of CEO & Founder, Tiffany Huff-Strothers's experience as a single mom. She founded When She Thrives to combat these statistics. WST now serves nearly 600 people annually through 5 programs.

Officially launched in 2016, WST takes a holistic approach to our mission and look beyond what someone does or does not have in the bank. We work from the inside out from emotional and mental prosperity to physical and financial prosperity, thus taking moms on a journey to understand what success is for them and ultimately for their family.

​The program is multi-generational. By serving the mother, we are serving her children. This is a formula that causes the mom to thrive, and her children to thrive, and the community to thrive.
